T O P I C R E V I E WXenaEverywhere I look people say the same thing, most important aspects in synastry are moon-moon, sun-moon, venus-mars ... I know that Saturn is REALLY IMPORTANT (I think the hard aspects are better because as painful as they can be they are still karmic and give us lessons). I think inner planets to angles (Asc-Dsc, MC-IC, Nodes, (Vertex?)) can replace the aspects above (for example if you have a moon square moon in synastry, but your moon is conjunct the other persons North node or Descendant that would be a good thing regardless of moon square moon, or when you don't have any actions going on between venus, mars or pluto but you have venus conjunct descendant in 7th house or mars in the 8th house or mars trine ascendant). My opinion is that people don't pay much attention to mercury and uranus, but they are as important as moon, saturn or venus and mars. Communication in really important in any relationship , and I believe it can "make it or break it". If you have a mars-venus conjunction and mars-pluto sextile in synastry and you have really great sexual chemistry but you have a semi-sextile, square of quincunx between your mercury's or his saturn squares your mercury, it can make a difference. In the end you don't communicate clearly. If you have a conjunction, setile or nice trine between your mercury's (or if his mercury is in your 3rd or 6th house) there is a way to overcome some of the harder aspects. In the end uranus, if you have a square or opposition between uranus and sun, venus, mars, moon or saturn it would be a hard thing to overcome. I think the sextiles and trines to uranus help the relationship to be less rebellious and creates and ballance.Doux RêveYou've made some good observations.Mercury really is important, especially for people who have it prominent in their chart. That's one of the main things that made me break-up with my ex, he wasn't talkative and communication was really strained. In synastry, our Mercuries were afflicted (his in Leo, mine in Scorpio) and in the composite, Mercury was in a T-square.So while we had all kinds of great aspects - Moon trines, Sun & Mars trines, Saturn and Pluto, Nodes, 7th house.. it didn't work out (well there was also the fact that he was aloof as heck, and me needs some affection regularly, but still). Some people can take Uranus better than others - if they're naturally more inclined to it.But I'm pretty sure Mercury is a biggie for everyone who's capable of communicating.GemmyIt is important.I'm shy and barely speak to anyone. But I felt very deeply about my ex,so I went for it.Thinking I'd overcome my inability to communicate, since it was the first time I had felt that way.But that's not how it happened. He has Scorpio Mercury,I have a retro Gemini Mercury.I couldn't speak to him. It's difficult to take when you can't speak to someone you love and that's probably the reason it didn't work out.Anyway,I recently began chatting with another guy.Even though his Pisces Mercury squares my Mercury, their both Mutable. And I'm having an easier time speaking to him.But it lacks the deep feeling I had with the first guy.JkittyMercury has always been very important to me in all relationships (not just romantic). It's posited in my 5th house, so I wouldn't remain attracted for long to someone who I can't communicate well with or someone whose mind/thinking/decision making I can't easily respect. Mercury also rules my 9th house where my 7th house ruler is posited and I'm sure that just makes it that much more important to me. No, I'd never consider a relationship without very good synastry to my Mercury.AriesLilithDepends on the chart. As some said, for some the AC ruler is more important for them; while for others, other elements might mean a lot.Thought how much each element might weight still doesn't change the fact that we lack compatibility between certain elements. You might have your AC ruler strongly aspected and that what matters to you the most, but lack of Moon-Moon compatibility will always mean a lack of compatibility in the emotional needs, no matter what.Thought lack of compatibility isn't always a doomed thing - people can work to understand each other and make up for the lack of compatibility. Aries Moon and Pisces Moon can still try to understand each other and succeed after some time, even if it takes long.In my case, me and my husband's synastry might not look as ideal, with me being double Aries with Virgo AC and him being Scorpio Sun/Pisces Moon/Pisces AC, and me having Taurus Mars/Aries Venus and him having Virgo Mars/Libra Venus. We don't naturally get each other's emotional and relationship needs, and it has been hard at times. You might think that opposed ACs is great - it does contribute to an overall compatibility -, but the lack of Sun/Moon compatibility is still there. Yet as the year passed, we tried hard to get each other, and made significant progress.Of course, there are also some less obvious stuffs between our charts, as well as our composite that helps. slowpokeWhat's really important in Synastry?Aspects, Aspects, Aspects. The influences represented by the aspects puts the juice in the union. But this may no longer be the case 30 years later when the couple meets for the first time. With progressed synastry, aspects can be observed dynamically forming, conjoining and subsequently moving out of orb (outside their range of influence) at the end. In his study, Westran was able to show that progressing synastry aspects dynamically reflect or correspond with romantic developments in the lives of real people."LianeeI know it's gonna be off-topic, but I'm still not a huge believer in the synastry stuff, maybe I just can't understand much out of it, but maybe someone could tell what's more impportant, huge aspects or compatible signs? 'Cause I realised that I actually get on better with people, whose signs 'clash' with mine (like leo, gem, sag) and can't find anything in common with majority of pisces, virgos and sometimes capricorns (I was dating a guy with sun, moon, venus in it, and I got taurus in those placements so were meant to 'understand' each other in astro point of view, whereas it was **** StarlightSmileSupremeI sorta believe in synastry. My criticism is, not enough attention is paid to the condition of the planets in the natal. If someone sees their moon conjunct a potential partner's sun they think it means the synastry is good but what if the sun and moon are weak in the natal charts? I like to look at the natal chart over the synastry because of this.Lianeeagreed, I think natal charts are more revealing than synastry, but still I never rely on any sorts of charts, because they're just not that accurate, and I got my birth time so accurate it hurts, and still I don't personify with half of it... I think it depends on a person, not a chart. (I'm saying this 'cause I know some people that swear by charts like some crazy-freaks).StarlightSmileSupreme quote:Originally posted by Lianee:agreed, I think natal charts are more revealing than synastry, but still I never rely on any sorts of charts, because they're just not that accurate, and I got my birth time so accurate it hurts, and still I don't personify with half of it... If synastry is fake, then that's an amazing amount of coincidences.
